Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how PromisingApps ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Video Splitter mobile application (the "App") — com.technicles.videosplitter.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the App. Our other apps each have their own privacy policy; some of them share advertising-consent decisions with this App, as described under Advertising consent & consent syncing.
Your files stay on your device
The App requests access to media and storage solely so you can pick the files you want to work on and save the results back to your device. This access is used on-device and is not used to collect or transmit your files.
On-device suggestions & smart re-engagement
The App includes an optional smart-suggestions system that surfaces videos from your gallery that might be ready to share — for example, a long clip recorded recently that you haven't split yet. This system runs entirely on your device. No video data, metadata, or behavioral information is uploaded or shared with us or any third party.
What it looks at
The suggestions engine reads metadata only from your device's media library — it never decodes or analyses the actual video content. The metadata it uses includes:
- Video duration — to identify clips long enough to benefit from splitting.
- Date the file was added — to prioritise recently recorded clips.
- Source folder — used as a signal to infer how you typically use the App (e.g. camera roll vs. received files), so suggestions become more relevant over time.
- A one-way hash of each file path — to avoid re-suggesting a file you have already edited. The hash cannot be reversed to identify the file.
How it learns your preferences
The App stores a local event log on your device (using an on-device database) that records anonymous usage signals such as: opening the App, importing a video, completing an edit, sharing a result, tapping a suggestion, or dismissing one. This log never leaves your device. The App uses it to build a lightweight on-device model of how you use the App — for example, whether you tend to share clips to social stories or to messaging apps — so it can rank suggestions in a way that is personally relevant to you. The model is updated locally each time new signals arrive and is never transmitted.
Where suggestions appear
"Ready to share" strip showing your best candidate clips.
"Next up" card shown after a completed export — confidence-gated so only relevant clips appear.
Optional push alerts when a new qualifying clip is detected. Off by default; you opt in explicitly.
Notifications
Suggestion notifications are off by default. You can enable them from the Suggestions settings inside the App. The App will ask for your device's notification permission only when you turn this on. You can turn notifications back off at any time from the same settings screen or from your device's system notification settings.
To avoid being intrusive, the system applies automatic rate limits (at most one notification per 24 hours and three per seven days) and quiet hours (no alerts between 22:00 and 08:00). If you repeatedly dismiss suggestions, the system automatically reduces how often it offers them.
Your controls
- Turn off suggestions: hide the "Ready to share" row from the Home screen row's settings button.
- "Not this video": permanently retire a specific clip from appearing again.
- "Fewer like this": signal that a suggestion was not relevant — used as a labeled negative to improve future suggestions.
- Turn off notifications: toggle in Suggestions settings, or revoke the notification permission in your device's system settings.
- Replay the intro: tap "How to use" in the side drawer to revisit the features walkthrough at any time.
Information we collect
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or postal address to use the App. The information collected falls into the following categories:
Information you choose to provide
- Files you select — the videos, audio, and images you open in the App. These are processed on your device only, as described above.
- Support communications — if you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
Information collected automatically
Our third-party partners (advertising and analytics providers, described below) may automatically collect:
- Advertising identifiers — your Google Advertising ID (AD_ID), used to serve and measure ads.
- Device & usage data — device model, operating system version, language/region, coarse network information, IP address, app-usage events, and crash/diagnostic data.
- Ad-interaction data — which ads are shown and interacted with, for measurement and fraud prevention.
How we use information
- To provide the App's core features (splitting, trimming, mixing, converting, and exporting media on your device).
- To power on-device suggestions, as described above — entirely on-device, no data leaves your phone.
- To display advertising, including through mediation partners, and to measure ad performance.
- To manage your advertising consent choices (and, where applicable, sync them across our apps — see below).
- To offer and process optional in-app purchases and subscriptions that remove ads.
- To understand how the App is used, fix bugs, and improve reliability and features.
- To send you on-device notifications about the progress of a processing task you started, and (if you opt in) suggestion notifications as described above.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Purchases
The App may offer optional in-app purchases and subscriptions (for example, to remove ads). These transactions are handled by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment-card details; Google processes payment and shares only the information needed to confirm and manage your purchase.
Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- With the service providers listed above, to perform the functions described.
- Between our own apps, for the limited purpose of advertising-consent syncing described above.
- Where required to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or of PromisingApps.
Data retention
Files you process remain on your device under your control until you delete them; we never receive them. The on-device suggestions event log is stored locally and managed by the App; clearing the App's data in your device settings will remove it. Data collected by our advertising and analytics partners is retained according to their respective policies.
Your rights & choices
- Advertising consent: change or withdraw your consent at any time via the privacy/consent option in the App.
- Reset advertising ID: reset or delete your Advertising ID in your device's Google settings (Settings › Google › Ads).

We take reasonable measures to protect information. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
